We have signed an agreement to acquire Infratec New Zealand Limited from WEL Networks, expanding our utility-scale solar and BESS capability to create a full-service renewable energy platform serving commercial, industrial and utility-scale clients across New Zealand and the Pacific.

The transaction combines our record of more than 200 commercial solar installations with Infratec’s utility-scale solar and BESS solutions. Together, we can now deliver and finance solar projects for C&I (commercial and industrial) and utility-scale customers, offering the full project lifecycle from development and engineering through to long-term operation and maintenance.

“New Zealand’s and the Pacific’s renewable energy transition requires investment at every scale: commercial rooftops and large-scale generation,” says Paul Makumbe, our CEO. “Together we can meet that demand. Our offerings are fully complementary, and we now have the skills, experience and capacity to deliver the full spectrum of services to help expedite that much-needed transition.”

Scale and delivery

Infratec has delivered large-scale projects like the Te Herenga o Te Rā solar farm in the Bay of Plenty or New Plymouth Airport Solar.

“Infratec has a technical record that speaks for itself: 194 megawatts built, 49 megawatt-hours of battery storage deployed, and a client list that includes some of New Zealand’s largest infrastructure operators,” says Paul. “Combined with Sunergise’s commercial solar depth and Pacific reach, this is a genuinely compelling offer for clients who need more than a single-service provider.”

Implications for the Pacific

The acquisition strengthens our position in the Pacific, where we have an established track record and operate through Fiji-based Clay Energy, which we acquired from Todd’s Pacific solar operations in early 2026.

We have worked with Infratec in the region before: from 2020, we jointly delivered five renewable energy plants across Nauru, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Palau, New Zealand’s first renewable energy project in Micronesia. The joint project received the National Energy Globe Award for Nauru and was also recognised by SEANZ with the Best Grid-Connected System award at the time.

Existing contracts, client relationships and service commitments across both businesses continue without interruption.

WEL Networks is divesting Infratec to focus on its core network and infrastructure business.
