A landmark project in New Zealand’s renewable energy sector
From panels to impact:
Annual Energy Production: 6,600 MWh/ yr
Environmental value: 486t carbon offset/ yr
Social value: provides a replicable model for NZ’s energy landscape
5.3 MWp commercial solar system
The fuel crisis in early 2026 served as another reminder of how exposed New Zealand is to global energy shocks. Renewable and reliable energy solutions are more important than ever. Energy resilience and energy security are particularly critical within the healthcare sector to ensure the continuous supply of essential products. For Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, shifting a significant portion of their energy consumption to solar power proved to be a smart business strategy and investment.
Sunergise delivered New Zealand’s largest rooftop solar system, bringing to life a project that sets a new standard for what is possible in New Zealand’s energy sector and serves as a replicable model for large energy users who want to lower energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint.
The Challenge
Delivering a solar installation of an unprecedented scale on a fully operational site — without disrupting a critical healthcare manufacturing environment and without capital expenditure. Projects of this nature demand experienced project management, deep expertise in engineering and construction, and the ability to effectively coordinate across multiple stakeholders.
Sunergise’s Solar Power Solution
New Zealand’s largest rooftop solar energy system: a 5.3 MWp grid-connected PV system across Fisher & Paykel Healthcare’s campus in Auckland. The system features a roof-mounted inverter architecture to reduce DC risk within buildings, supported by a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), enabling zero upfront cost and long-term price certainty on energy costs. Fisher & Paykel Healthcare pays only for the generated electricity of the system. The project was delivered in collaboration with JA Solar, SMA, and Clenergy, providing high-quality panels, inverters, and innovative mounting systems.
A Moment to remember: Project Highlight
One of the most symbolic moments of the project was when our CEO, Paul Makumbe, joined the team on the rooftop alongside Jonti Rhodes (Fisher & Paykel Healthcare), to install the final commercial solar panel (Panel number 8,273).
A Word from our Client
“Investing in renewable energy is not only the right thing to do, it’s the smartest business strategy to implement. Hopefully this serves as an example to other New Zealand businesses. Working with Sunergise was a no-brainer for us. Everybody in the company – from the front-line to the senior management – have been there at every stage of the project, when we were making our selections, through the installation, commissioning and the final go-live. Partners who share our values, have long-term thinking and will support us, are really important – so for us it made Sunergise an easy choice.”
